Mike Foley serves as the Security Technical Marketing Manager for ONTAP® at NetApp, Inc., a role he has held since March 2025. In this capacity, he drives the development and promotion of advanced security solutions for the ONTAP platform, leveraging his extensive expertise in virtualization and cybersecurity.
From 2013 to 2024, Mike held multiple roles at VMware, significantly contributing to the vSphere product line. For the first seven years, he focused on enabling vSphere administrators to build secure, high-performance platforms that met rigorous IT operational demands and satisfied security team requirements. Subsequently, he specialized in vSphere with Tanzu, authoring the vSphere with Tanzu Quick Start Guide to support administrators in adopting this technology. From December 2022 to June 2024, Mike served as Senior Product Manager for vSphere Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS), High Availability (HA), and vSphere with Tanzu HA, where he led strategic initiatives to enhance platform reliability and performance.
A recognized thought leader, Mike has authored numerous whitepapers, including vSphere with Tanzu 101 for the vSphere Administrator, as well as publications on hypervisor security, virtual machine encryption, and the vSphere Security Configuration Guide. He is a sought-after speaker at prominent industry conferences, such as VMworld and RSA Conference, where he shares insights on virtualization and security.
Mike holds a patent (US 8,601,544, awarded December 2013) for “Dual-band authentication using the virtual infrastructure” and had two submitted patents as of November 2020, underscoring his innovative contributions to the field.
